Skin types and characteristics

Not sure what skin type you are? Check your skin against the following to find out.

Normal Skin

• Even distribution of pores
• Clear, fine texture
• Smooth, soft and moist to touch
• May experience infrequent pimples
• Healthy colour

Dry Skin

• Tight, taut feel
• Fine, almost transparent texture
• Flakes, scales and chafes easily
• Ages more quickly than any other skin type
• Obvious lines around eyes, mouth and/or forehead
• Very few problems with skin blemishes

Mature Skin

• Tendency to increased sensitivity
• Sebaceous (oil producing) glands less productive
• Cells retail less moisture and lose fullness
• An evident web of tiny facial lines

Sensitive Skin

• Usually has the basic characteristics of dry skin
• A tendency to blush easily
• Broken/dilated capillaries may be evident
• Reacts to some skin care and cosmetic preparations
• Explain how our products react to this type of skin
• Explain how ease clients into our products

Disturbed Skin

• Has the basic characteristics of oily skin
• Mostly encountered in teenage years
• Pimples, protruding blackheads, acne etc
• Coarse texture and bad colour (angry looking skin)

Oily Skin

• Skin often appears sallow
• Texture is often course
• Often besieged with pimples and blackheads
• Flakiness may appear around nose, chin and forehead
• Overall shine to face

Combination skin

• Combines two skin types
• Oily skin characteristics through central T-Zone (from forehead to chin)
• Dry/normal skin characteristics in outer areas

Stressed Skin

• Can be any of the above skin types – they may need extra care after an operation, a heavy weekend, after illness, air conditioning, etc.
